Sugar Land, Pearland, Galveston and Greater Houston area, Sun Shield Window Tint can help you protect your Home with residential window tinting. There are many benefits of home window tinting, which is the process of appliying solar window film to the interior side of windows. The primary purpose of solar window film is to deflect the direct sunlight and heat. There are a number of reasons that you might want to do this…

Defend the health and comfort of you and your family

Excessive exposure to direct sunlight is just bad for you. It can cause deterioration of the skin which leads to premature aging. It can also cause dry skin which involves itchiness and rashes, not to mention the increased chance of skin cancer.

Residential window tinting blocks 99% of the ultraviolet light that causes such damage. It is a good idea to control your exposure to sun as much as possible. Save the sunlight exposure for doing fun things outside. Protect your home from the vicious rays.

Protect the interior of your house

Sunlight that comes into the house is phenomenal for fading carpet, drapes and furniture. The heat from it can also damage electronics and digital items and cause wood to warp.

In addition to its blocking power, solar residetial window tinting can passively reflect and absorb up to 77% of incoming solar heat which keeps it from entering the house. Don’t put up with damage from “natural elements” inside your home. Protect your investments, keep them in excellent shape and make them last longer.

Improve finances by conserving energy

Solar residential window tinting decreases the heat that comes in from the outside which make it easier and cheaper to keep the house cool in the summer. It also has an insulating effect that will keep in the heat in the house during the winter, which will drastically decrease your electrical bill.

For 2009 only, the federal government is giving everybody a 30% off tax credit for home window tint. Consumers who purchases qualifying energy control window tinting for residential use from Jan. 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2009 are eligible for 2009 tax credit up to $1500 per taxpayer.

Guard your privacy

Privacy matters, but why would you want to keep your shades pulled down all the time? Home window tinting ensures that privacy during the day and it doesn’t block your view of the world!

Home window tint comes in many different types. If you want to protect the privacy inside your home, choose a tint with a higher reflective rate. That way, you can see out but you can’t see in during the day. At night it does not ensure as much privacy, so it is good to close the blinds at night after you’ve enjoyed the view all day!

Make your home more attractive

Residential window tinting can make your home look better from the outside. Curb appeal is important to most homeowners. When decorating the inside of house, you are not going to use curtains that don’t match in one room. So, why would the outside of your house show different colors of curtains?

Home window tint will block or obscure the view of the things that are inside the house for the exterior (depending on its reflectivity). Solar window film comes in many colors and shades as well so it can complement your home’s style.

Tint is the process of bonding tinting film to a piece of window glass. Tinting film is usually made out of clear polyester film with a very thin and even layer of tinting agents such as ceramic, dyes and/or metals deposited onto the film.

A common misconception is that window tint is dark, and night-time driving is impossible when a car is tinted. The truth is that there are many films of any darkness available to suit your preferences. Another misconception is that the darker the tint the more heat it blocks. Thanks to new technology such as nano-ceramic, films don’t have to be dark to block a huge amount of heat. The darker the film the more light it will block. Also, unlike sunglasses that do impair your ability to drive at night, tinting film is designed to reduce glare and not impede night-time driving. State window tint laws also protect consumers against illegal tint that may put them in harm’s way during night-time driving.

Another misconception is that window tint is bonded onto the outer surface of auto glass. Window tint is applied on the inner surface which also protects the film itself from flying debris outside the car.

Once tinting film is applied to a window, the characteristics of how visible light comes into the car changes. Normal auto glass without tint reflects around 5% of visible light (known as VLR%), absorbs another 5% (known as VLA%), and transmits 90% of visible light (known as VLT%) into the car.

Depending on the type and quality of tinting film applied to a window, these percentages change dramatically. Some tint are more reflective, and others absorb more light. The number you will most commonly see is the VLT% (Visible Light Transmittance). VLT% tells you how much visible light is allowed to shine into the car, and also indirectly how dark the tint looks. There are also other factors that determine how dark the film will look, such as the color of the interior and exterior.

Tinting film doesn’t just block visible light. It also blocks harmful cancer-causing ultra-violet (UV-A and UV-B) rays as well as infra-red (IR) rays that cause heat to build up in your car; however, how effective a film is in blocking these rays depends on the type of film, the manufacturer, and the quality of installation.

How to Pick a Window Tint Shade for your Vehicle
Choosing the right shade and window film for your car is important because automotive tinting can be expensive and not easily removed. Once it’s on your car, you’re stuck with the window tint until you pay for it to be remove, so be sure it’s the shade you want. Take your time and follow these steps when you pick a window tint shade.

Things to Consider

Choose a colored window tint if you want to go for the fancy look. Sun Shield Window Tint can customize your window tinting shade to match your car. Consider the color of your vehicle’s interior and exterior as those two items effect the appears the window tinting film. Dark interiors and exteriors will make the window tinting film appear darker than light interiors and exteriors.

Pick a dark window tinting shade to maximum privacy. Remember the darker the window tint the more light it blocks(not heat). Caution limo window tinting (05%) may obstruct your night vision.

Always select a car window tinting shade that is legal. Police don’t hesitate to give tickets for window tint that’s too dark. Tints, like limousine tint, in the front windows of your automotive . A Sun Shield Window Tint representative can tell you if the shade you want is legal in your area.

Get a strip on the top of your windshield that matches the tint on the rest of the car. This strip works like a sunshade to keep the sun out of your eyes while driving, and it also has a sporty look to it.

Once the window film has been installed, it’s very common to see a slight haziness and/or small water ripples/pockets. This is a normal part of the adhesive bonding process called “curing”. You shouldn’t roll your windows down for at least 48 hrs depending on the weather conditions. Although the weather is a factor in the curing process it doesn’t impact the installation process nor does it interefere with it. The curing process is slow because the moisture between the film and glass must evaporate through the film after the installation is completed.

Care and Maintenance

The window film should not be clean or touch during the “curing” progress, once the film is dry and cured, it’s then safe for the film to be cleaned and the windows can be safely rolled down. The best cleaner is a damp towel and a dry towel. You may also clean the film surface with any normal strength glass cleaner. Products with amonia will not damage the film however caution should be used, if used in an unreasonable quantity or if the film is left to soak in it the amonia will cause the life expectancy of the film to decrease.

Don’t Roll your windows down for the next 48 hours

Don’t use any abrasive cleaners, industrial strength glass cleaners and/or any other window cleaning tools that may scratch the window film. Remember the surface of the film is coated with a scratch resistant it’s not scratch proof coating.
